Duncan is a three years old Jungle cat hybrid He has the coloring of a cougar with chocolate tips and in some light almost appears gray. His actual breed name is a Chausie . They are very secretive in the wild and well documented in Egyptian history. When he sits he often looks like a Bastet statue
I decided on a Jungle cat because I have always loved all cats, especially wild ones. As a child I used to dream of having a cougar and got a tattoo of a black panther on my right ankle when I was eighteen. I knew owning a large wild cat would be unfair to the animal so I decided to look into the option of owning an exotic hybrid.
On a side note, I would not recommend exotic hybrids to just anyone. Choosing an exotic hybrid is not a decision that should be taken lightly nor should one be chosen just because you want a cool wild cat to show off. They are a lot of work, extremely intelligent and can be very destructive and dangerous and should be treated with the utmost respect.
Duncan is currently three years old and is around seventeen pounds. Now seventeen pounds may not seem like much, but when you factor in that he is over three feet long it is pretty impressive. When he stands up on his back legs, he comes up to about my waist if not higher. Typically Chausies can range from 15-30lbs so he is on the small side for the breed.
Duncan is clicker trained he knows about 10 tricks including high five, roll over, play dead, stand, and wave which he does on voice command. He also walks on a leash and will come on command. The problem is he only does his tricks when he wants to so he basically ends up making me look like the crazy cat lady
One of Duncan's favorite pastimes is to jump on me at every possible opportunity particularly when I am not expecting it. He can jump six feet from a standing position and he has a talent for landing on whatever flesh is exposed and digging in. He is very active and still plays as rough and wild as a kitten. He reminds me of the mean kitty video but he doesn't drink from the crapper (ewww).
Just recently I found out he has asthma. He is a pain in the butt about taking his medicine especially since he has to take pills three times a day. I am constantly trying to come up with inventive ways to get him to take his medicine but I am losing the battle thus far
Although he is not a lap cat in any sense of the word he does like to snuggle and one of his strangest habits is he likes to give kisses like a dog. I try not to encourage this behavior because it's kind of gross and anyone who has ever been licked by a cat knows it can hurt and feels like sandpaper.
I will try to post some recent pics of him soon, I have a bunch I just cannot get them off my camera and onto my computer but that is a story for another day...
Peace
MsZ
