Growing up I was really lucky, my mother was a DJ (teacher and other things) who was also very passionate about music. She made sure that we always had the best, most up to date music collection. Being in Hawaii that wasn't an easy task because in Hawaii, we always seemed to be about 2 years behind in popular culture. Through her I gained a passion for all types of music but there will always be a special place in my heart for old school R & B, rap and reggae. She was the person who introduced me to Bob Marley, cool in and of itself in my book.
My taste in music is quite diverse but in order for a song to qualify as something I will listen to, the lyrics and sound have to mesh in that perfect way. That way that makes you feel a raw pure rush of emotion regardless of what that emotion may be.
One of the things I truly enjoy is finding songs from my past that I haven't heard for awhile. It's like taking a walk down memory lane, or talking with an old friend bringing to the forefront things you did while listening to the song or where you were when you first heard or even who you were with.
That's the beauty of music, even those who strive to be impassive cannot resist the emotional pull of music, and even though they would be loathe to admit it, feel just the same as the rest of us when they hear their favorite song.
I think I am going to sign up for Last FM (thanks Kit
